At Home Nail Care Routine

Everyone needs an at home nail care routine. But, let’s face it, amidst all things COVID-19, many women are finding themselves at home without access to a salon and unsure what they can do. I’ve got you! This simple at home routine will help you whether you are normally a salon girl with acrylics or gel, a Color Street gal, or someone who simply wants to improve their overall nail health.

First, if you are finding yourself with gel, dips, or acrylic on and can’t get to the salon for removal, here is a super quick instructional video from one of my favorite salons, Lords and Ladies Salon located in Pennsylvania. If your gel or acrylics are just grown out, you can apply Color Street dry nail polish strips overtop until either you need to remove, or the salon re-opens and you can get back in!

If you are currently wearing a polish, first start by removing with nail polish remover. My favorite is the Nail Polish Remover Dip from Target! It is just under $3.00, works really well on glitters or multiple layers and has scrubby bristles to really help remove polish. If you prefer not to use acetone then another favorite is Mineral Fusion, which will just take a bit longer to soak off the polish.

Once you remove any nail polish I recommend trimming your nails down, especially once they’ve gotten too long. After trimming, file and shape with a good nail file. Did you know glass nail files seal the keratin layers together at the edge of the nail, which helps prevent peeling and chipping. Next, push back cuticles, and if you feeling patient, use a cuticle nipper to remove any excess. Finally, use a nail buffer to smooth over nail beds. If you have cuticle oil, apply to cuticles, or even a good hand lotion.

It is healthy to give your nails a break from polish every so often, especially if you consistently have them done. I typically give my nails on overnight break before re-applying polish ever few changes. Once your manicure is complete, you can leave nails bare or apply polish. If you are looking for an easy, cost effective way to keep your nails done from your home, I’ve got you covered with Color Street- 100% real nail polish in dry strips.
